SUMMARY OF CRASH: On May 4, 2017 at approximately 1328 hours VSP Williston Troopers responded to the report of a tractor trailer unit up against a set of

guardrails on I89 in Williston at MM84 SB. Initial information from dispatch was that CPR was being performed on the operator due to a medical event.

Investigation at the scene revealed that Paul A. Bristol of St. Johnsbury, VT lost control of the commercial motor vehicle he was operating and collided with a guardrail. A bystander who was below the interstate overpass observed the incident and subsequently went onto the interstate to provide assistance.

With the assistance of other passerby's, the bystander pulled Bristol from his truck and began CPR on him roadside. Bristol was transported to UVMC medical center where he is undergoing treatment. Neither speed nor impairment were contributing factors in this collision. VSP Troopers were assisted at the scene by Williston Fire, Williston Rescue, and VT DMV Inspectors. This collision is still under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or provided assistance is asked to contact Corporal Andrew Leise at VSP Willistion 1-802-878-7111.
