SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

On 03/29/17, Vermont State Police Detectives currently assigned to the Northwest Unit for Special Investigations (NUSI), were advised of a report made to the Department of Children and Families (DCF) alleging a former teacher at Missisquoi Valley Union (MVU) High School in Swanton of engaging in lewd and luscious conduct with a juvenile female student, while in a classroom.  The male was identified as Darren Haynes, age 47 of Georgia, VT.  The conduct was alleged to have occurred during the 2015-2016 school year over the course of several months, and continued after Haynes’ teaching contract was not renewed.

Upon conducting a joint investigation with the Residential License and Special Investigations (RLSI) Unit of DCF into the alleged conduct, it was determined that Haynes was currently employed at BFA Fairfax.  Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that Haynes continued to have illicit contact through social media with the juvenile female.

Haynes was arrested at BFA Fairfax on May 26th and charged with Lewd and Lascivious Conduct with a Child and Luring a Child. He was lodged at the Northwest Correctional Center for lack of $15,000 bail.
