SUMMARY OF CRASH:

On May 6, 2017, at approximately 8:30 PM, Troopers at the Vermont State Police – Rutland Barracks were notified of a two-vehicle injury crash with entrapment on Lake Road in the town of Benson, VT.  Initial investigation revealed that Morgan Phillips, 43 of Benson, VT was operating his 2003 GMC truck east on Lake Road in Benson.  Investigation suggests that he pulled out to pass a vehicle in front of him while cresting a hill and lost control of his vehicle.  Traveling west bound  meeting Mr. Phillip's truck was Derek Eagan, 17 of Benson, Vt.  Eagan stopped his 2001 Chevy truck at the crest of the hill avoiding a head-on collision.  The front passenger's cab of Mr. Phillips truck struck the front driver's side of Mr. Eagan's truck.  Egan's truck was pushed off the roadway, Phillip's truck spun out of control, left the roadway, rolled twice and landed off the roadway.  Mr. Phillip's truck landed on its driver's side with the bed of the truck detached from the bent frame.  Both drivers were transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center for minor injuries.  While speaking to Mr. Phillips Troopers detected an odor of intoxicants and other signs of impairment.  Mr. Phillips was screened for DUI and arrested.  He was transported to the Rutland State Police Barracks where he was processed and released on a citation to appear in Rutland Superior Court on May 22, 2017 at 8:30 AM to answer to the charges of DUI #1.
