SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

As a result of an investigation into a stolen pickup truck from a residence on Bible Hill Road in Newbury on 03/29/17, Troopers located an abandoned van at a residence on Golf Links Road in Newbury. The vehicle was determined to be stolen from Northeastern University in Burlington, MA earlier in the week. Further investigation revealed the residence where the van was abandoned had been burglarized.

Subsequent searches of the van and the burglarized residence yielded various pieces of stolen property from Massachusetts and Vermont to include stolen mail from Vermont residents. Troopers were able to identify a number of victims of these thefts in Vermont and the Boston and Medford, Massachusetts areas. State Police also identified the suspect in all of these crimes as Valery Labossiere of Medford, MA. Labossiere was arrested by CT State Police after crashing the aforementioned stolen pickup truck during a police pursuit. The crash resulted in the death of the passenger in a separate vehicle.  A rifle stolen at the same time as the pickup truck was recovered.

Vermont State Police will be applying for arrest warrants for Labossiere on charges of Burglary (2 Counts), Aggravated Operation of a Vehicle without Owner's Consent (2 Counts), Petit Larceny, and Possession of Stolen Property. This investigation is continuing with the assistance of CT State Police and more charges may be forthcoming.
