DATE: 4/17/2017

TIME: 0900

On April 17, 2017 at approximately 0900 hours, a distracted driving detail was conducted via a joint effort by Vermont State Police, inspectors from DMV, and VTRANS workers. The sole purpose of this detail was to identify and stop operators who were utilizing portable electronic devices including cell phones. During the detail, 6 tickets were issued to various drivers. These tickets are $162 each, and fall under the law which prohibits the use of any electronic device while driving on a public highway. The detail was concentrated on I-89 in the towns of Georgia and Saint Albans. State Police and DMV are urging all operators to utilize Bluetooth, or simply wait till you are no longer operating your vehicle to minimize any distractions and reduce crashes.
