SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

 

Since 02-21-2017 the Vermont State Police and the Northwest Unit for Special Investigations have been investigating an active sex offense incident that occurred  in Highgate, VT.

 

During the course of the investigation, new evidence was obtained from numerous interviews, several forensic interviews, and evidence obtained from the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) lab. The investigation showed that Spears had multiple physical sexual encounters with the juvenile victim. Based upon the results of the investigation, Spears will be charged with aggravated sexual assault with a child under age 13, aggravated sexual assault for repeated nonconsensual acts, two additional counts of lewd & lascivious conduct with a child, and a new violation of Spears’ conditions of release.

 

On 04-26-2017, Spears turned herself into the Vermont State Police-St. Albans Barracks and was then transported to Chittenden County Correctional Center.  The Honorable Judge A. Gregory Rainville ordered Spears to be held without bail until her arraignment on 04-27-2017 for the new charges.
