SUMMARY OF CRASH:

Troopers from the Shaftsbury barracks responded to a tractor trailer that had traveled off US RT 7, near mile marker 27, in the Town of Sunderland.  V # 1 was located down a steep embankment on its passenger side.  V # 1 was determined to be carrying approximately 9,000 gallons of gasoline and 2,000 gallons of diesel fuel.  US RT 7 was immediately closed between exits 3 and 4, as a precautionary measure.  At this time the Vermont Hazmat Team, along with Arlington Fire Department, North Bennington FD, Manchester FD, Bennington FD and Shaftsbury FD are working to remove the fuel from V # 1 prior to the vehicle being removed.  Once the fuel and V # 1 are removed from the scene US RT 7 will be opened back up and an updated press release will follow.  US Route 7 is expected to be closed for several more hours. 

 

Fitzsimmons was not injured in the collision.  It was determine Fitzsimmons had been traveling from Albany, New York and was on his way to Bellows Falls, VT.  This collision is still under investigation.
