SUMMARY OF CRASH:

Troopers from the Shaftsbury barracks responded to a tractor trailer collision on VT RT 9 in Searsburg.  Upon arrival VT RT 9 was initially closed so emergency personnel could work the scene.  The tractor trailer truck and trailer were located (detached) well off the north side of the roadway.  After speaking with the operator and viewing evidence at the scene it was determined Garcia lost control of Vehicle # 1 as he was traveling east on a downhill  left curve.  The trailer on Vehicle # 1 began to rotate counterclockwise  which led to Vehicle # 1 losing control.  Vehicle # 1 exited the north side of the roadway, traveled down an embankment and into a marshy wetland.  Prior to Vehicle # 1’s final position of rest it traveled through a significant amount of brush and over uneven terrain, causing significant damage to Vehicle # 1.  Garcia was able to exit Vehicle # 1 without injury.

The Wilmington Fire Department assisted with traffic control.  An inspector with the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) responded to the scene.   A’s Auto and Truck Repair out of Guilford, VT removed Vehicle # 1.

At this time speed appears to have been a contributing factor  The collision is still under investigation.
