SUMMARY OF CRASH: On March 2, 2017 at approximately 0014 hours, the Vermont
State Police received a report of a single motor vehicle crash on Highbridge
Road in Georgia, VT. The complainant advised that the operator of the vehicle
was possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or both, and attempting
to leave the scene.
The Vermont State Police, the Georgia Fire Department, and AM Care Ambulance
Services arrived on scene and observed a 2000 Ford Truck approximately 50 feet
off of the roadway and down an embankment. Witnesses on scene advised that the
operator of the vehicle left the scene on foot.
The Vermont State Police located the operator, Wade Merritt, 59, at his
residence in Fairfax, VT. Wade was placed under arrest for suspicion of Driving
Under the Influence, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and Criminal DLS. Wade
was transported to the VSP St. Albans barracks for fingerprints and processing. Wade was ultimately transported to the Northwest Medical Center to conclude processing with an evidentiary sample of his blood as evidence. At the conclusion of processing, Wade was released on a citation to appear at the Franklin County Superior Court on April 10, 2017 at 1300 hours to answer to the above charges.
