SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

On 03/17/17 at approximately 1900 hours, the VSP-Derby Barracks was notified that a 2000 Jeep Cherokee had been involved in a rear-end collision on Rte 5 in Derby near the I-91 on-ramps, and then left the scene.  The complainant, Jonathan Hinton, advised his 2016 Chevrolet Colorado had been struck from behind while waiting at a red light, receiving rear end damage, and the operator had then left without exchanging information.  There were no injuries reported.

Troopers were able to locate the Jeep behind the suspect, Floyd Ellis’, residence in Derby, and saw that it had front end damage consistent with the reported collision.  Subsequent interview and investigation revealed Ellis had been impaired at the time of operation.  Ellis declined to provide a PBT.

Ellis was placed under arrest and transported to the VSP-Derby Barracks, where he was processed and transported to the Northern State Correctional Facility as an incapacitated person.  He was issued a citation to appear in court for suspicion of operating under the influence (Subsequent), and leaving the scene of an accident.
