LOCATION: Lake Champlain in Orwell, Vermont and Putnam Station, New York

 

2/15/2017 UPDATE: Joint search efforts by the Vermont State Police and New York State Police were successful in locating 1 male individual in the waters of Lake Champlain near the area in which it is suspected 2 Vermonters went through thin ice on snowmobiles.  The recovered individual is being transported to the New York State Medical Examiner in Albany NY for positive identification.  Joint search efforts will continue tomorrow, February 16th, in an effort to recover the 2nd missing individual.  The New York State Police should be contacted for any further information on this development.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: The Vermont State Police and New York State Police will continue search efforts on February 15, 2017, after today's search operation didn't yield missing snowmobilers, Jonathan Ryan or Brandon Barrett. Consistent with today's search, the area of focus will be on the New York side of Lake Champlain in the town of Putnam Station. The search will continue to utilize sonar equipment and state police divers, with the search area likely spanning in a northerly direction. End of report.
