SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On the evening of 02-2-17, State Police were dispatched to a reported snowmobile crash with injury, on Vast trail #302 in the town of Groton, Vermont. Upon arrival, members of the Groton Fire Department, fast squad and Woodsville Ambulance were on scene and preforming Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on the operator of the snowmobile. After resuscitation efforts were exhausted, the operator was pronounced deceased at the scene.  Investigation is ongoing and the identity of the operator is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Preliminary investigation revealed that the snowmobile was travelling at a high rate of speed, when for unknown reasons the operator left the trail and collided with trees causing the operator to be ejected.  At this time, speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors to this crash. This investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Trooper Sean Brennan at 802-748-3111.
