SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

 

On Saturday, February 25, 2017 at approximately 2337 hours, troopers from the Vermont State Police –Rutland barracks attempted to stop the vehicle on Spring Hill Road in Killington for several traffic violations. The operator, later identified as Matthew J. Gallagher, drove into his driveway, but fled the vehicle on foot, despite troopers utilizing the cruiser’s blue emergency lights and ordering the operator to stop. After a brief foot pursuit, the operator was taken into custody before he entered his residence. The operator physically struggled with troopers while he was being handcuffed, thereby resisting arrest.

 

Gallagher showed signs of alcohol impairment and was found to have a criminally suspended driver’s license. Gallagher refused to provide a preliminary breath sample and was transported to the Vermont State Police Barracks in Rutland Town. He was processed for DUI, among the other charges, and later lodged at the Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility. He is due to be arraigned at Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division on Monday, February 27, 2017 at 1230 hours.
