SUMMARY OF CRASH:

On February 22, 2017, at approximately 1403 hrs, Vermont State Police responded to a snowmobile crash on the Juggernaut snowmobile trail in Killington, Vermont. The nearest road was identified as West Glade Rd.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2014 Polaris Indy LXT snowmobile owned by Killington Snowmobile Tours was rented and operated by John McConomy of Pennsylvania. John and his wife, Judith McConomy, were part of a guided tour from Killington Snowmobile Tours. During the tour, John was exiting a turnaround location and accelerated too fast causing him to lose control. During time, John’s snowmobile struck a tree stump causing him and Judith to be ejected. First Responders arrived on scene and transported John to an ambulance parked on West Glade Rd at which time he was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center. During the course of transport, John’s condition deteriorated and was triaged to the operating room. John McConomy later succumbed to his injuries.  His wife, Judith, sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Investigation remains ongoing.
