SUMMARY OF CRASH: On January 12, 2017 at approximately 0800 VSP Williston Troopers responded to the report of a 6 vehicle pileup on I89 at the Winooski River Bridge in Winooski. Investigation at the scene revealed there were three separate collisions, but all were part of the larger 6 vehicle pileup. There were no injuries as a result of the pileup. Impairment was not a contributing factor of the collisions and none of the operators sustained any injuries. Investigation at

the scene revealed that the at fault operators were following too closely. Three operators: Lucy Stillman, Jessica Amos, and Katherine Pointbriand will be

mailed Vermont Civil Traffic tickets pursuant to Title 23 VSA Section 1039 Following too closely $220 and 5 points. The points were enhanced from 3 to 5 as

the collisions occurred as a result of the violation. Numerous collision have occurred in this specific area as a result of motorists following too closely.

Most recently, digital signs were placed up temporarily warning operators to not follow too closely. Troopers continue to educate the public to not follow too closely on Vermont Roads to prevent collisions. Traffic was significantly backed up in the area due to the above collisions. Troopers were assisted at the scene

by a VT DMV Enforcement Inspector.
