SUMMARY OF CRASH:

On January 4th 2017, at approximately 1747 hours, the Vermont State Police responded to VT RT 9 in the Town of Woodford for a two car crash.  When police arrived on scene they identified the operator of vehicle one as Michael Thomas.  Thomas had two passengers within the vehicle, both were transported to SVMC for a medical evaluation.  The operator of vehicle two, who was identified as Juan Lopinta-Chirinos,  was not injured.  Troopers determined that Lopinta-Chirinos was travelling west on VT RT 9 at a slow rate of speed.  Thomas was also driving west and was behind Lopinta-Chirinos vehicle when he lost control on icy roadway conditions.  Thomas's vehicle rear ended the car being operated by Lopinta-Chirinos. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Icy roadway conditions were a contributing factor in this crash.  Troopers learned that Thomas's license was criminally suspended in the State of Vermont.  Thomas will be issued a criminal citation for operating with a suspended license. In addition Thomas will be issued a VCVC for travelling too fast for the conditions of the roadway.  The Vermont State Police are continuing to investigate.
