SUMMARY OF CRASH:

On January 17th 2017 at approximately 0720 hours Vermont State Police out of the Williston Barracks received a call of a bed mattress in the roadway on Interstate 89 near mile marker 90.  The mattress had fallen off a south bound vehicle. (17A100231). Prior to arriving on scene the State Police received two separate calls of motor vehicle crashes in the same area of the mattress.  It was learned that traffic was backing up as south bound vehicles attempted to avoid the mattress.  There were two separate incidents where vehicles collided causing minor damage as a result of the slowing traffic.  There were no injuries reported in the collisions.  Two vehicles had to be towed from the scenes due to front end damage.  The driver of the vehicle that lost the mattress received a traffic ticket for having an unsecure load.  Traffic was slowed in the area of the Winooski River Bridge as a result of the mattress and subsequent crashes.
