SUMMARY OF CRASH:

On 01/02/17, at approximately 2003 hours, Vermont State Police received a report of a two-vehicle crash on I-91 in Barton, VT. Trooper from Derby and St. Johnsbury responded to the scene along with personnel from Barton Ambulance, Barton Fire Department and VT Agency of Transportation.

Through the investigation it was determined that Stacy Bissell, 45, of White River JCT, VT was traveling southbound on I-91 when her 2014 Honda Accord left the east side of the southbound lanes, travelled through the median and into the northbound lanes. Bissell's vehicle collided with a 2006 Subaru, operated by Richard Farrar, 59, of Newport, VT.

Both vehicles sustained significant damage and Bissell was pronounced deceased at the scene. Farrar was transported to North Country Hospital.

The crash remains under investigation and it is still unclear if speed and/or alcohol played a role in the crash.

There were initial reports that one of the vehicles was on fire, however, that was not substantiated. Precautionary measures were taken by Barton Fire Department.
