SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:  State Troopers conducting speed enforcement on I-91 south in Thetford stopped a 2016 Toyota Camry driven by Heidi Mays traveling 93 miles per hour in the rain at approximately 0815 hours on 06/23/17. Troopers discovered two children, ages 6 and 3, in the vehicle along with another adult passenger. Mays was arrested for reckless endangerment and later released on a citation to appear in Orange County Court on 08/09/2017. She was also issued several traffic tickets.

On June 22, 2017 at approximately 2259 hours, troopers from the Vermont State Police barracks in Rutland responded to a single car motor vehicle crash on East Mountain Road, in the Town of Killington.  During the investigation into the crash, the operator, who was identified a Paul Padfield, displayed indicators of impairment.  He was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center by Regional Ambulance, for treatment to his non-life threatening injures.  After Padfield was treated and released from Rutland Regional Medical he was taken into custody for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to the State Police barracks in Rutland, where he was processed for DUI.  He was later released to a sober party and is scheduled to appear at Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division on July 10, 2017 at 0830 hours.

                On the above date and time, State Police responded to the area of King Farm Road, Craftsbury, for a report of a single motor vehicle crash with possible injuries.  The operator of the vehicle was treated on scene by EMS for minor abrasions.  The passenger was uninjured.  Through investigation it was revealed the operator lost control of the vehicle while rounding a corner, causing the vehicle to overturn and crash off the roadway into the opposing shoulder.   Fire and EMS responded and the vehicle was later removed.

SUMMARY OF CRASH: The Vermont State Police responded to the area of I-91 north near mile 64 for a two vehicle tractor trailer accident with tractor #2 having extensive rear end damage and leaking used cooking oil at a rate of 50 gal per minute.  Operator #1 was traveling north on I-91 near mile 64 and ran into the rear of tractor #2 causing the accident.  The Hartland Fire Department responded to the scene quickly and contained the oil until Sables & Son's arrived to clean it up.  Members from the Vermont Agency of Transportation arrived and set up a sign package to slow traffic down.  Vermont DMV also arrived to assist with the inspection of the TT units.  Investigation of the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

                On 6/14/17 at approximately 0713 hours, State Police of Middlesex observed a vehicle – a black Dodge Charger with green headlights, traveling in excess of the posted speed limit of 50 MPH. Upon attempting to conduct a motor vehicle stop on said vehicle, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed, passing several cars and children awaiting the school bus.  On 6/21/17, at approximately 0715 hours, State Police had made contact with the operator, Dylan Mobbs in the same vehicle.  Mobbs was subsequently issued a citation to appear in the Washington County Superior Court, Criminal Division, on 8/17/17 at 0800 hours to answer to the charge of careless and negligent operation.  Local law enforcement has received numerous complaints about this specific vehicle traveling at high rates of speed.  If anyone has any information regarding the operation of this vehicle, please contact Trooper Pouliot at the Middlesex Barracks.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:  On June20, 2017 at approximately 2330 hrs. a 911 caller reported a fire at 640 Charleston Rd. in Brighton, VT.  Initial reports and witnesses advised the building was heavily involved in fire.  Upon arrival of the Brighton Fire Department and surrounding fire departments, the building was heavily engulfed in flames on all three floors and had started to collapse in spots.   

The Brighton Fire Chief contacted the Vermont State Police Fire Investigation Unit to request an origin and cause investigation for this fire. 

On the morning of June 21st, 2017 Detective Sr./Sergeant Thomas Williams, Det./Sgt. Steve Otis, Det./Sgt. Todd Ambrose, Det./Sgt. John MacCallum, and DFS Investigator Stan Baranowski began an examination of the scene.  The Vermont State Police Arson K9 accelerant detection team was also brought and utilized at the scene.  The cause of this fire is still under investigation.  The classification of this fire, at this time,  is undetermined. 

Nobody was injured in the fire, but the building is considered to be a total loss.  Nobody was home at the time of the fire.  Damage was estimated to be approximately $350,000.  Brighton Fire Department was assisted by the Newark and Charleston Fire Departments. 

Anyone having any information regarding this fire is urged to contact the Vermont State Police in Rutland at 802-773-9101, Detective Sr./Sergeant Thomas Williams, or by calling 1-800-322-7766 – The Vermont Arson Tip Award Program (VATAP).  Up to a $5000 reward will be paid for information which helps detect or prevent an arson fire.

On the Afternoon of 6-21-17, Troopers fromm the St. Johnsbury State Police barracks were dispatched to a report of a disturbance at a residence on W Main Street, in the town of Lunenburg, VT. Upon arrival, State Police made contact with Talatinian (50) who was under the influence of alcohol. Investigation revealed that Talatinian had condition against drinking alcohol, issued from the Caledonia Court, Talatinian was subsequently taken into custody, processed for violating her conditions of release and her parole was violated by St. Johnsbury Probation and Parole. Talatinian was lodged at the Northeast Regional Correctional Facility for her probation violation. Talatinian is scheduled to appear in Essex Criminal Court on 9/15/17 at 0830 hours.

SUMMARY OF CRASH:

On June 21, 2017, at approximately 1237 hours, Troopers from the Rutland Barracks were dispatched to a two-vehicle traffic crash located at the Shunpike Road and Russelville Road intersection, located in Mount Holly.

 

Investigation revealed vehicle #1, being operated by Joseph Boudreau was traveling west on Shunpike Road with the intention to make a right turn onto Russelville Road.  Vehicle #2, being operated by Joan Judge was traveling south on Russelville Road with the intention of turning left onto Shunpike Road. 

 

Vehicle #1 collided with vehicle #2 within the intersection.  Contributing factors include the width of the road and the inability for approaching vehicles to see one another.  Neither speed or incapacitated operation were associated with this crash.

 

Troopers were assisted on scene by the Mount Holly Volunteer Fire Department and Mount Holly Rescue.

State Police have arrested William Hall, age 51 of Wardsboro, VT for simple assault.  This arrest is the result of an investigation into an incident that occurred at Hall's residence on May 22, 2017.  This incident involved his interaction with an employee of a mental health and development organization who was at the house to provide community support to Hall.  It was determined  that Hall threatened serious bodily harm to the worker while also expressing racial slurs.  The worker was in fear for her safety and felt that she was in serious danger of being assaulted.
