            On 12/31/17, at approximately 0418 hours, Vermont State Police were requested to conduct a welfare check on an individual at a residence on Duck Pond Rd in the town of Barton. Upon arrival Trooper spoke with the individual who advised there had been a physical altercation with Michael Collins not long ago. The victim advised during the altercation Collins threw a metal travel mug at her head, twisted her arm and choked her. Troopers then spoke with Collins who advised he had restrained the victim to avoid injury himself. Collins was later lodged at Northern State Correctional Facility for lack of $5,000.00 bail which was set by the Honorable Judge Rainville.

Investigation revealed Allen Davis attempted to cause serious bodily injury to the victim. Davis was arrested and taken to the Vermont State Police Derby Barracks for processing. Davis was released on citation to appear in Orleans County Court.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On December 31, 2017 Troopers were dispatched to a retail theft at Dicks Sporting Goods in Rutland Town, prior to arrival of Troopers, the suspects left the scene in a vehicle. A short time later, the described vehicle was stopped by the Rutland City Police Department. During the course of the investigation, it was discovered, that Brent Shaw had stolen various items from Dicks Sporting Goods. A citation was issued to Brent for retail theft.

 

The Vermont State Police was aided by the Rutland City Police Department during the investigation.

vehicle on a corner and left the roadway. Talvaccia's vehicle struck a road sign

before coming to rest partially on its side. No injuries were reported and the

vehicle was driven from the scene after being pulled back on the road by a tow

truck.

On December 30th, 2017 at approximately 1530 hours, juvenile Colby Pattee (age 11) was

operating a four-wheeler in the woods on his family's private property. He lost

control and subsequently crashed as the ATV rolled over. Pattee was transported

to the NMC ER for his injuries and later pronounced dead at which time VSP was

notified. 

 

Pattee was wearing a helmet during the crash. Speed, alcohol or drugs are not a

factor in this event. Deteriorated travel conditions likely contributed to this

incident.

Investigation revealed that the operator, Kyle Bartlett, had been operating the vehicle at a speed too fast for conditions. Kyle subsequently lost control of the vehicle, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and roll. Kyle was transported to Porter Hospital. Kyle was issues a VCVC for driving too fast for conditions.

SUMMARY OF CRASH: 
On December 26, 2017 at approximately 1550 hours, Troopers from the New Haven Barracks responded to the intersection of VT Route 22a and VT Route 17 in the Town of Addison for a report of a two car motor vehicle crash. Investigation reveled that Bennett had stopped at the stop sign on VT Route 17 prior to entering the intersection. Bennett then entered the intersection, colliding with vehicle #2, which was travelling south on VT Route 22a. Both vehicles were totaled as a result of the collision, and their were no injuries. Bennett was issued VCVCs Unsafely Entering an Intersection and Operating without a License.

On December 14, 2017 at approximately 1540 hours, Troopers from the New Haven

Barracks responded to the area of Fuller Mountain Road and Jockey Lane for a

report of a two car motor vehicle crash involving a school bus. Investigation revealed that the two vehicles attempted to pass bye each other on a narrow roadway, resulting in the vehicles side-swiped each other. Both vehicles only sustained minor damage as a result of the crash. Their were no injuries as a result of the collision.
