SUMMARY OF CRASH:

On September 29th, 2016, at approximately 2103 hours, the Vermont State Police investigated a single vehicle crash that occurred on Quarterline Road, in the Town of Clarendon. State Troopers were initially advised by the two vehicle occupants on scene that a third occupant had been operating the vehicle and had fled the scene on foot. SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On 09/27/16 at approximately 0400 hours Troopers responded to a suspicious vehicle complaint in the area of Rollin Road in Shaftsbury. While patrolling the area Troopers discovered a matching vehicle parked at the intersection of Whitecreek Rd and Cold Spring Rd. Troopers made contact with three males later identified as Leon Lovelace, Brett Stone and Cody Smith.

During the initial investigation it was revealed that the males were in possession of numerous freshly harvested plants which appeared to be marijuana. After a brief investigation the males were issued citations for marijuana possession and released.

During a follow-up investigation it was discovered two of the males provided false identification and the plants were actually hemp, not marijuana. They belonged to a hemp farming operation in Shaftsbury. The farm has sustained a large loss of crop recently due to people mistaking it for marijuana and stealing it. With the assistance of Hoosick Falls PD all three males were located in Hoosick Falls and issued citations. All three are to appear in Bennington court on November 14, 2016 to answer to the charges.
