SUMMARY OF CRASH:

On December 14, 2016, at approximately 0352 hours, the Williston PSAP received a report of a two-car head-on collision on Interstate 89 southbound near mile marker 94 in the Town of Colchester. The preliminary investigation indicated Vehicle 1 was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Interstate 89 when it collided with Vehicle 2. Vehicle 1 was travelling at typical interstate speed.  Vehicle 1 contained a child which was secured in a child passenger safety seat at the time of the collision. Both vehicles sustained front-end damage from the collision and all occupants were transported from the scene for non-life threatening injuries. At this time there is no indication of alcohol or drug involvement in this incident.  Interstate 89 was reduced to one-lane of travel for a period of time while the State Police investigated the collision.

Operator 1 was charged with Grossly Negligent Operation and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Operator 1 was cited to appear in Chittenden County Criminal Court on February 28, 2016 for the above listed charges. The investigation is ongoing and anyone who witnessed the collision or events leading to the collision are asked to contact Tpr. McGowan at 802-878-7111.
