SUMMARY OF CRASH:
On 12/05/2016 at approximately 0617 Troopers from the Vermont State Police – New Haven Barracks were detailed to a reported two vehicle crash on VT RT 125 at Chimney Point, Addison VT.  Upon arrival it was discovered that a silver Honda, operated by Cody Tompkins of Saugerties, NY, collided with a guardrail at the foot of the Champlain Bridge and was then struck by a tan, Hyundai, operated by John Milholland of Creswell, OR.    Preliminary investigation indicates that Thompkins was traveling east from New York to Vermont, descending from the bridge, when he lost control and struck the guardrail.  Hopkin’s vehicle came to rest in the center of the roadway.  Hopkins exited his vehicle and was attempting to warn approaching motorists when his vehicle was struck by the Hyundai operated by Milholland.  Milholland was also traveling east from New York to Vermont and had been in traffic behind Hopkins.  Neither operator was injured as a result of the crash.
The Addison County Sheriff’s Department, Town Line First Response and the Addison Volunteer Fire Department were also detailed and provided assistance at the scene.
Road and weather conditions are considered to be contributing factors in this crash.
This accident remains under investigation.
