SUMMARY OF CRASH:

On November 23, 2016, at approximately 1617 hrs, Vermont State Police responded to a two vehicle crash in front of residence 639 South St, Poultney, VT.

Investigation revealed that Poultney Constable Kerber was on duty enforcing traffic regulations when he measured a vehicle traveling southbound on South St at 53 MPH in a posted 35 MPH speed zone. This vehicle had also passed Carol Scott as she drove south on South St. Constable Kerber attempted to catch up to the speeding vehicle and pass Carol Scott while his blue emergency lights were on. However, Carol did not realize Constable Kerber was approaching her location from the north as she approached her destination of 639 South St. Carol reduced her vehicle’s speed and began to turn left into the residential driveway, just as Constable Kerber initiated his pass on the left. Constable Kerber observed Carol’s change in direction and attempted to avoid the collision, however, his vehicle struck Carol’s before it left the roadway and stopped in the front lawn of 639 South St.

Neither operator reported any injury.

The Town of Poultney’s police vehicle sustained moderate contact damage to the front end and passenger side.

Carol Scott’s vehicle sustained contact damage to the front driver side corner.

Constable Kerber was found at fault for this collision.
