VICTIM: Christine Oliver

AGE: 68

CITY, STATE OF RESIDENCE:  St. Johnsbury, VT

 

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

 

On the afternoon of 11-27-2016, State Police received a call from Oliver

reporting that someone had just shot into her residence. VSP investigation revealed

that neighbor Young (33) had an accidental discharge of his firearm while

preparing to go hunting, which had entered Oliver's residence. The bullet

entered the residence and continued to go through several rooms of the residence

narrowly missing Oliver before coming to rest. Young was given a citation to

appear in Caledonia Criminal Court on 02-06-17, to answer to the charge of

Reckless Endangerment.

 

The Vermont State Police strongly encourage persons engaged in hunting, shooting

activities, and general handling of firearms to practice good firearms safety to

include always making sure your firearms are pointed in a safe direction in the

event of an accidental discharge.
