SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

 

               On 11/21/16 at approximately 1130 hrs. the Proctor Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 6 Green Square in Proctor. A neighbor had called in the fire. Upon the  arrival of fire personnel they found heavy fire in the attic area and an upstairs apartment.  They called for assistance in attacking the fire and fire departments from Rutland Town,  and Pittsford assisted on scene.  The building sustained heavy fire and water damage.  Damage was estimated at approximately $100,000.  Only  one tenant was home at the time of the fire.  They were evacuated by the Rutland County Sheriff on patrol in town. 

                

The Proctor Fire Department contacted the Vermont State Police and requested an origin and cause investigation of the fire. Two Detectives from the Vermont State Police Fire Investigation Unit, Patrol Sergeant from Rutland County Sheriff’s Department,  and an investigator from the VT. Division of Fire Safety responded on 11/21/16 to the scene. 

 

                There were five apartments in this apartment building.  All tenants and pets got out safely.  The red cross was on scene to assist with housing, clothing, and any other necessities needed by the tenants. 

             

            Investigators have determined that the fire cause is undetermined at this time. The investigation is ongoing.  Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call the Arson Tip Line at 1-800-32-ARSON (There is up to a $5,000.00 reward for information resulting in an arrest) or the Vermont State Police (Detective Sergeant Williams) at the Rutland Barracks at 802-773-9101.
