On November 29, 2016 at approximately 1852 hours, troopers from the Vermont State Police-Rutland Barracks were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash with injuries on VT Route 31 in the Town of Poultney. Investigation revealed the operator, Brian F. Brown, was traveling north on VT Route 31 near New Boston Road. His vehicle traveled off the right (east) side of the roadway, struck a mailbox then several trees before coming to rest in the roadway. Brown was evaluated by the Poultney Rescue Squad on scene and declined transport to the hospital.

Brown displayed signs of impairment and was screened for DUI. He refused to provide a preliminary sample of his breath. He was taken into custody and transported to the Fair Haven Police Department where he was processed for DUI. Brown was released to a sober party and cited to appear at Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division on December 19, 2016.
