The Vermont State Police were notified of the death of David Bissonnette who was pronounced deceased at the University of Vermont Medical Center on November 22, 2016.


Bissonnette was an inmate held at the Northwest State Correctional Facility (NSCF) in Swanton, Vermont. On the morning of November 22, 2016 he was seen at the infirmary by medical staff of the NSCF who determined he should be transported to the hospital based upon their evaluation. Bissonnette was transported to the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans by ambulance. After a short time at the Northwestern Medical Center, he was transferred to the University of Vermont Medical Center Intensive Care Unit in Burlington, Vermont. He was pronounced deceased during the evening hours of November 22, 2016.


Upon preliminarily investigation, it is believed that Bissonnette died as a result of a medical issue. The Vermont State Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death, as it is normal procedure when there is a death with an inmate under the supervision of the Vermont Department of Corrections.
