SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:
On October 14, 2016, at approximately 16:00 hours, Vermont State Troopers, Officers from the Bennington Police Department, and Deputies from the Bennington County Sherriff’s Department conducted an operation designed to intercept James Burroughs, age 54, of Brooklyn (NY) who was believed to be transporting heroin and crack cocaine from Brooklyn to Bennington (VT).

The investigation indicated Burroughs was utilizing public transportation via Vermont Translines Bus Service to transport drugs.

On the above date and time, investigating Troopers/ Officers made contact with Burroughs as he left the bus terminal.  A search of Burroughs resulted in the discovery of 77 bags of heroin, 1.3 grams of crack cocaine, and 62 milligrams of an unknown drug (powder substance).

Further investigation indicated Burroughs was in fact traveling from Brooklyn to Bennington with the intention of selling the heroin and crack cocaine in Bennington for profit.

Burroughs was taken into custody and transported to the Shaftsbury Barracks for processing.  At the conclusion of processing, Burroughs was lodged within the Marble Valley Correctional Center and held without bail.

Burroughs is scheduled to appear in the Bennington County Superior Court, Criminal Division, on October 17, 2016, at 12:30 hours to answer to the above charges.
