SUMMARY OF CRASH:
On 10/22/16 at about 0915 hours, members of the Vermont State Police-New Haven Barracks responded and investigated a two vehicle crash on VTRT 22a at the intersection of Richville road in Shoreham.
Investigation revealed that a Vehicle #1 operated by Brown was traveling west on Richville Road. As Brown’s vehicle approached the intersection and crested the hill, she did not notice the posted stop sign. Brown said she continued through the intersection without stopping, and collided with a Vehicle #2, operated by Stanton, traveling south on VTRT 22a.
The front end of Vehicle #1 collided with the rear, drivers side tire and truck box area of Vehicle #2. The force of the collision caused Vehicle #2 to leave the roadway, spinning 90 degrees and coming to final rest in the ditch off of the southbound shoulder of the road. Vehicle #1 subsequently spun 180 degrees and came to final rest on the shoulder of Cemetery Hill Road (which is located directly across from Richville Road off VTRT 22a). It should be noted that the rear end of Vehicle #1 also collided and damaged the stop sign posted on Cemetery Hill Road. Both operators of the vehicle were able to exit under their own power. Brown and Stanton reported that they were uninjured and also indicated they each were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
Brown indicated that she did not see the stop sign, and advised she never stopped to yield the right of way prior to entering onto VTRT 22a from Richville Road.
Brown was found to have failed to stop for a posted stop sign, and issued a Vermont Civil Violation complaint for violation of Title 23 VSA 1048(b).
Due to the significant damage to both vehicles, they were removed by tow trucks. The Vermont State Police were assisted on scene by Shore Fire Department and Shoreham First response.
