Additional information: the incident occurred at 682 Gilfeather Road in Wardsboro.







The victim in this incident is preliminarily identified as Kirby Staib (42) of Wardsboro.  The shooter in this incident is identified as Kevin Parker (57) of Wardsboro. 


The Crime Scene Search Team is continuing to analyze the scene at 682 Gilfeather Road.  The victim has been brought to the office of the chief medical examiner for autopsy. 


The circumstances surrounding the shooting in this case are still under investigation.  At this time, no charges are being brought pending the conclusion of the investigation and further review by the Windham County State's Attorney. 




At approximately 4:45pm this afternoon, Vermont State Police Troopers from the Westminster Barracks were dispatched to Gilfeather Road in Wardsboro, Vermont for a reported shooting.  Upon arrival troopers found a 42 year-old male deceased outside a residence.  Identification of the deceased is pending next of kin notifications.  Cause and manner of death is pending an autopsy.


Another male subject was taken into custody at the scene.  Identification of this subject will occur as soon as investigation allows.  At this time there are no other suspects being sought in this incident, and there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the public.


The Vermont State Police Major Crime Unit along with Troop D BCI detectives continue to investigate this incident.  More information will be released as soon as possible.
