Investigators: Detective Sergeants Todd Ambroz/John MacCallum (Vermont State Police), Assistant Fire Marshal Stan Baranowski (Division of Fire Safety).
Address: 24 Spider Web Farm Road, Williamstown
Victim: Will Knight (age 91), owner of the Spider Web Farm. Nobody was injured in this fire.

Narrative: On October 25, 2016 at approximately 11:20 AM the Williamstown Fire Department along with Barre Town, Barre City, Brookfield, and Northfield Fire Departments, responded to a 911 call for a fire at the Spider Web Farm 3 story barn on Spider Web Farm Road.  Upon their arrival the building was smoking heavily and showing fire from the 2nd floor and a storage shed directly behind the barn.  The Orange County Sheriff’s Department also The Williamstown Fire Chief requested the Vermont State Police and Division of Fire Safety to assist in determining the origin and cause of the fire.  The fire was determined to have started from wood that was placed on a metal grate on top of the lit wood stove on the 2nd floor.  The fire quickly traveled to the rest of the barn and is considered a total loss.  The barn housed the Spider Web Farm gift shop, the wood shop, a storage area and an adjoining wood shed.  Damage estimates at this time are preliminary, but are at least $300,000.   This fire is not considered suspicious, but anyone having information regarding it is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Ambroz at the Williston Barracks at 878-7111.
