SUMMARY OF CRASH:

On Thursday, October 13, 2016 at approximately 2210 hours, the Vermont State Police were notified of a single-vehicle crash on Straight Road in the Town of Mt. Holly. Troopers from the Rutland Barracks responded to the scene and located a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta, rolled onto its passenger’s side in the ditch. No one was with the vehicle. Preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle had been traveling north when it left the travel lane and rolled onto its passenger’s side.

Troopers learned the occupants of the vehicle had been transported to the Rutland Regional Medical Center by private vehicle. Troopers later met with the occupants at the hospital. Jason J. Dias was identified as the operator of the vehicle. Dias was not injured. A passenger, Joshua M. Bruce, was found to have non-life threatening injuries. He was treated at the emergency department for an injury to his left shoulder. It was determined Bruce was not seat belted at the time of the crash.

Investigation revealed that Dias was traveling north on the gravel road when he began to lose control of the vehicle on a slight curve. Dias was unable to regain control of the vehicle. The vehicle spun backwards and slid off the right side of the roadway, rolling onto its passenger’s side. Dias was found to be at fault for the crash. It was also determined the vehicle was not insured.
