SUMMARY OF CRASH:

On Thursday, October 20, 2016 at approximately 1735 hours, Troopers from the Vermont State Police-Rutland Barracks responded to a two-car crash with reported injuries at the intersection of Main Street and Westway Plaza in the Town of West Rutland, VT.

 

Investigation determined that vehicle #1 was traveling west on Main Street. Main Street, primarily runs east and west. There are two westbound lanes of travel and two eastbound lanes of travel. Operator #1 (Smith) was stopped in traffic waiting to make a left turn into the Westway Plaza parking lot. Operator #1 (Smith) advised she was waived on by a vehicle that was stopped in the eastbound passing lane. Operator #1 (Smith) advised she proceeded to turn left.

 

Vehicle #2 was traveling east on Main Street. Operator #2 (Ley) advised she was traveling east in the curb side lane when vehicle #1 pulled in front of her. Operator #2 (Ley) advised she was not able to avoid the crash.

 

All damage was substantial. Vehicle #1 was able to be removed from the roadway under its own power. Vehicle #2 was towed due to disabling damage.

Operator #1 (Smith) was transported to the Rutland Regional Medical Center by Regional Ambulance Service. Operator #1 (Smith) injuries were not life threatening. Operator #1 (Smith) was in stable condition and being treated for her injuries.

 

Operator #1 (Smith) was found to be at fault for the crash and in violation of Title 23 VSA 1047, vehicle turning left.
