SUMMARY OF CRASH: On October 5, 2016, at approximately 7:13 A.M. Troopers with the Vermont State Police, Westminster Barracks, responded to a single vehicle crash with injuries on Route 30, north of Stephenson Curve Road in the town of Townshend. Upon arrival, the operator of the vehicle, Barry Cain, 73, of Riverhead, New York, had been transported by ambulance to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. Through investigation, it was discovered Cain had been travelling northbound on Route 30 in a 2011 Ford Flex. Cain had an unknown medical event, crossed the southbound lane and struck the guardrail on the northbound side of Route 30. Cain's vehicle travelled a short distance and then struck another set of guardrails at the Scott Bridge construction site. Cain's vehicle sustained severe driver side and front end damage during the crash. Cain received a minor head and hand injury. Cain was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Scott Brooks Towing and Recovery removed the vehicle. The Windham County Sheriffs Department, Townshend Fire Department and Rescue Inc. all assisted at the scene.
