SUMMARY OF CRASH:
On 10/19/2016 at approximately 0803 hours, Vermont 911 received multiple calls of a roll over type crash with ejection on Interstate 91 southbound in Guilford. Initial reports indicated that the vehicle involved in the crash was towing a utility storage trailer.
Troopers from the Vermont State Police Westminster, Vermont DMV Inspectors, Guilford Fire, Brattleboro Fire, Rescue Inc. and members of Vermont AOT responded to the scene. Affordable Towing removed the vehicle and DJ’s Towing removed the trailer.
During the investigation, it was determined that vehicle #1 a 2016 GMC Yukon towing a 6X12 Diamond Cargo trailer was traveling southbound on Interstate 91 at an unknown speed. For reasons unknown, the operator of vehicle #1, Davis lost control of the vehicle and entered the median. Once in the median, vehicle #1 impacted the ground causing the vehicle to roll over multiple times. The cargo trailer which had been attached to the vehicle became separated and came to rest partially in the northbound passing lane. Vehicle #1 came to rest on its passenger side, across both northbound lanes facing east.
As the vehicle rolled over, the operator, Davis and front seat passenger Ward, who were not wearing seat belts were believed to have been ejected from the vehicle. Two children ages 2 and 9 that were passengers in the rear of the vehicle that were properly restrained were not injured.
The northbound lanes of Interstate 91 was closed for approximately 2.5 hours while the investigation was conducted. Traffic that had been stopped as a result of the crash was diverted into the southbound lanes.
Anyone who witnessed this crash is asked to contact the Vermont State Police – Westminster at 802-722-4600 and ask for Trooper James Matthews.
