SUMMARY OF CRASH:

On October 5, 2016 at approximately 6:08pm Vermont State Police were notified of a motor vehicle crash southbound on I-89 near Exit 17 in the Town of Colchester. Upon arrival, Troopers discovered a red Chevrolet Equinox overturned on its roof blocking the southbound passing lane. Milton Fire/EMS was already on scene.

Investigation revealed the vehicle was traveling northbound on I-89 in the left-hand lane when the operator became distracted and drifted over the fog line and onto the rumble strips. The operator then swerved back to the right, but overcorrected and nearly collided with a tractor trailer truck. This caused the operator to cut the wheel back to the left, driving off the roadway and into the median. In the median the vehicle rolled several times before coming to rest on its roof on the southbound side of the interstate.

The operator was identified as 21 year old Julie Wright of East Fairfield. Wright was transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center to be evaluated for non-debilitating injuries.
