SUMMARY OF CRASH:

On 10/21/16, at approximately 10:20pm, Christian Aubut was operating a 2007 Volvo tractor trailer unit south on VT RTE 114 in Norton. Aubut advised that he dropped an item inside the passenger compartment and when he leaned over to retrieve the item his vehicle traveled onto the gravel shoulder and Aubut was uable to steer the tractor trailer back onto the roadway. The gravel shoulder collapsed under the weight of the tractor trailer and the vehicle traveled down a small embankment and rolled onto its side.

As a result of this, the structural integrity of the cargo box style trailer
was compromised and a majority of its freight was dislodged.

Aubut was not injured, however, the tractor and trailer unit sustained extensive damage. The tractor and trailer had to be towed individually from the scene. The vehicle's freight had to be reloaded onto several other tractor trailers, causing a portion of the roadway to be closed for several hours.

VT Agency of Transportation, VT Dept of Motor Vehicles Enforcement Unit and Beecher Falls Fire Dept all responded to the scene to assist with the crash and subsequent road closure.
