SUMMARY OF CRASH:
On 09/22/2016 the Vermont State Police, Readsboro Fire Department and North Adams Rescue Squad responded to a single vehicle crash on Tunnel Street in the town of Whitingham VT. Troopers located a single vehicle off the side of Tunnel Street that had impacted a tree. The operator had left the scene on foot and was not present. The single passenger was entrapped in the vehicle and was extricated by the Readsboro Fire Department.
The passenger, Jordan Belliveua (20), suffered multiple serious injuries and was air lifted by medical helicopter from the scene. J. Belliveau later succumbed to his injuries at Albany Medical Center, listing this crash as a Fatal MV Crash.
The operator was located a short time later approximately 4 miles away and was taken into custody. The operator, Patrick Belliveau was screened for alcohol and drug impairment and his blood alcohol level was determined to be .089%.
Belliveau is being charged with Gross Negligent Operation serious bodily injury, Leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury. Belliveau may also be charged with Driving Under the Influence pending the results of evidentiary tests.
Tunnel Street was closed to traffic for approximately 3 hours while the crash was investigated.
