New Haven, VT – 09/13/16– The Vermont State Police responded to 716 Hunt Road in New Haven for a reported trespassing complaint. The owner of the property advised he granted Vermont Gas access to construct a gas line which resulted in approximately 50 protesters unlawfully entering his property and surrounding the excavating equipment to stop the project. The property owner further advised the protestors were interfering with the roadway Vermont Gas agreed to build which would allow his cattle access to their feed due to the construction.
The property owner advised he wanted the trespassers removed from his posted property. The Vermont State Police informed the protestors the legal land owner wanted them to vacate his property and were provided thirty minutes to do so. Twelve protestors decided to stay past the allotted thirty-minute time and were subsequently arrested for unlawful trespass. One protestor was also charged with resisting arrest when he stopped walking and sat on the ground while he was being escorted from the property.
The protestors delayed the project for approximately three and one half hours.
Vermont Fish and Game Officers and Addison County Sherriff Deputies assisted with the complaint.
