SUMMARY OF CRASH:

On 9/17/16, at approximately 1918 hours, Troopers from the Shaftsbury Barracks were dispatched to a single vehicle into a tree on West Mountain Road, in the Town of Shaftsbury. The investigation of the crash revealed that the Jeep Cherokee being driven by Raymond Niles was heading west and was unable to negotiate a sharp curve. The vehicle then hit a tree, severely damaging the front end and the air bags were deployed. Niles was uninjured in the crash and the Troopers on the scene, smelled the odor of intoxicant's coming from Niles breath. He later consented to roadside sobriety exercises and then a PBT, which yielded a BAC of .193%.  A DMV check showed Niles to also be driving with a criminally suspended license.

Niles also received civil tickets for driving too fast for conditions (title 23 VSA 1081a) and failure to drive on roadways laned for traffic (title 23 VSA 1038).
