VICTIM: (The Vermont State Police does not release the names of victims of
sexual assault or domestic violence.)


SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

On 09-01-2016 approximately 1044 hours, Troopers of the Vermont State Police
responded East Road in Shaftsbury Vermont for a suspicious complaint about two
sisters fighting.

Upon arrival, an investigation ensued. It was found that Melissa Brown had
attacked a family member because of comments made on Facebook. During the
attack, Brown stuck the family member with a can of dog food and then retrieved
a muzzle loader from a bedroom. Brown threaten to shoot the family member with
the muzzle loader before another family member took the muzzle loader away from her.
Brown was arrested for 1 Degree Aggravated Domestic Assault, Reckless
Endangerment, and False Information to a Police Officer as she initially
denied having the muzzle loader but later advised she did. Brown was released on
conditions to appear in court on 09-02-2016.
