FW: Press Release/Vermont State Police-Shaftsbury/Case # 16C303095/Burglary/September 06, 2016/Arlington

UPDATE:

 

On 09/06/16 at approximately 1100 hours the Vermont State Police in Shaftsbury received a report of a second burglary; this time at the Arlington Memorial High School.  Investigation determined this incident occurred in the same timeframe as the burglary at the Martha Canfield Memorial Free Library.

 

Through surveillance at the high school and additional investigation, police determined that Brett W. Weber, 23, of Sandgate, VT, burglarized both properties.  Weber was taken into custody on the afternoon of 09/07/16.  Conditions of release were set on Weber.  Weber was subsequently transported to the Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility where bail was set in the amount of $5,000.00.  As part of Weber’s conditions of release he was ordered to appear at the Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division, Bennington unit, on 09/08/16 to answer to the charges of burglary (two counts), petit larceny, unlawful mischief, and violation of conditions of release (Weber had been on 24 hour  curfew).

VIOLATION:  Burglary

 

VICTIM: (The Vermont State Police does not release the names of victims of

sexual assault or domestic violence.)  Martha Canfield Memorial Free Library

 

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

On the morning of 09/06/16 the Vermont State Police in Shaftsbury were contacted by staff at the Martha Canfield Memorial Free Library who reported a burglary at their facility.  Investigation determined individual(s) forcibly entered the library via door between the above time period.   Minor damage occurred to the door.  Approximately $75.00 in cash and change was stolen.
