SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On 08/19/16, Vermont State Police received a complaint
regarding a failed check transaction. It was reported that Emily Gillis had
given a payroll check belonging to Kerry Hoag and dated 08/05/16, to her
landlord in order to settle a debt between them. Kerry Hoag was the victim of a
fatal motor vehicle crash on 08/04/16.

It is alleged that Gillis had received the check from her boyfriend at the time,
Trever Hoag, and subsequently tried to cash the check. When that failed, the
check was given to Gillis' landlord. Extended investigation led to Emily Gillis'
arrest as well as Trever Hoag's arrest.

Honorable Judge David Howard set conditions of release on Trever Hoag, including
to appear in Bennington County Superior Court, Criminal Division, to answer to
the charges. Hoag was remanded to the Marble Valley Correctional Facility for
lack of bail as well as violation of furlough due to the new charges. Gillis
faces a court date in the near future.
