On the above date and time, Vermont State Police, Pawlet Fire Department, and Green Mountain Power, responded to Herrick Brook Road in Pawlet for a report of a single vehicle crash in which the vehicle had struck a power pole.

Upon arriving on scene, it was found that the vehicle had broken the power pole in half, and that it would need to be replaced. The operator of the vehicle, was identified as Jonathan Amaral, age 17, of Pawlet, Vermont. It was determined that Amaral and his passenger were not injured in the crash. Proper seatbelt use and airbag deployment is credited for the lack of injuries.

The crash was caused due to the vehicle leaving the lane of traffic. It was determined that the operator was driving northbound on Herrick Brook Road, when a deer jumped out into the roadway. The operator swerved to avoid striking the deer, and in doing so left the lane of travel and struck the power pole.
