August 3, 2016 - WATERBURY, VT – Department of Public Safety Commissioner Keith Flynn is proud to recognize the election of Vermont State Fire Marshal Michael Desrochers to the National Association of State Fire Marshals Board of Directors.  Fire Marshal Desrochers was elected to serve a two-year term on the Board of Directors.
 
State Fire Marshal Desrochers has been employed by the Department of Public Safety for over 26 years and is currently serving as Executive Director for the Division of Fire Safety.  In this capacity, Director Desrochers oversees the State Hazardous Material Response Team, Building Code Enforcement Program, Fire Service Training, Fire Prevention Public Education and Urban Search and Rescue.  Although Vermont is a small rural State, our fire safety officials are recognized across the country for their ability to provide meaningful leadership in life safety initiatives.  The National Association of State Fire Marshals is a prestigious organization, and Director Desrochers election reflects positively on the Vermont Department of Public Safety, Division of Fire Safety and the State of Vermont.   
 
Commissioner Flynn praised the Director’s election, saying "this national recognition reflects the role Mike has played as Director of Fire Safety, and recognizes his effort and dedication to the State of Vermont.  I know NASFM will benefit greatly from his knowledge and experience, as do Vermonters."  
 
The National Association of State Fire Marshals membership is comprised of each State’s senior fire official and provides a single voice for life safety at the national level.  The primary mission of the National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM) is to protect human life, property and the environment from fire and related hazards. A secondary mission of NASFM is to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of State Fire Marshals’ operations. In addition to its principal membership, NASFM has several categories of membership to allow companies, associations, academic and research institutions, and individuals who support NASFM’s mission to contribute in meaningful ways.
