SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

On 08/25/16 the Vermont State Police received information in reference to a reported missing dog in Shaftsbury VT. During the initial complaint, the dog owner, Jessica Caron reported the dog having been missing since Friday, August 19th.  Caron reported the dog having been located by an individual in Shaftsbury VT who was refusing to return the dog.

During the investigation police learned that the dog had been injured, and was likely struck by a car or other object.  The dog had been brought to the West Mountain Animal hospital where it is currently being treated for an injury to its hind quarter.

Information was learned that the dog owner, Caron and her boyfriend, Daniel Ferris had known the dog was injured since Tuesday 8/23 and had failed to get medical treatment for the dog.  Furthermore the dog had not been missing since the previous Friday and numerous other statements provided to police by Caron were determined to be false.

Both Caron and Ferris were charged with Cruelty to Animals for failing to provide medical treatment for the dog and Caron was charged with providing false information to police.

The dog was removed from Caron and Ferris's custody and has been placed in a temporary foster home.  The dog does need to be homed permanently at some point in the future.
