SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

On August 19, 2016 at 0830 hours Troopers from the Westminster Barracks investigated a case of a stolen truck from S.L. Moore Construction Corporation located on VT Route 121 in Westminster. The truck, a Ford F550 with a dumpster on the back had been stolen from the business overnight.

State Police were notified of the theft after a citizen familiar with the truck reported seeing it being operated erratically on US Route 5 in Bellows Falls.  The citizen followed the truck onto Forest Street in Westminster at which point the truck was abandoned and the driver fled on foot.

The driver of the truck was caught on Forest Street a short distance from where the truck had been abandoned and was detained until State Troopers Brian Turner and Mike Sorensen arrived on scene, taking the subject into custody.

The driver was identified as Cody Ritchie, age 25, of North Walpole NH.  Ritchie was found to be under the influence of intoxicating liquor and processed for DUI.  Ritchie was also charged with Felony Aggravated Operation of a Motor Vehicle Without Owner's Consent along with a Misdemeanor charge of Careless and Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle.  Ritchie was also ticketed for Operating with a Suspended License.
