SUMMARY OF CRASH: On 8/29/16 at approximately 1718 hours, VSP Williston dispatch received a call about a three vehicle crash on Interstate 89 northbound just before the exit 15 off ramp in the City of Winooski.

Upon arrival, investigation revealed that Vehicle #1, driven by Enescu, was traveling northbound on Interstate 89 and getting ready to exit the Exit 15 off ramp when he took his eyes off the road to look at directions.  As Enescu did this, he failed to see traffic at a stop in front of him and crashed into the back end of Edwards's vehicle, Vehicle #2, which was stopped in traffic waiting to exit the off ramp.  Seconds later, Vehicle #3, driven by Harvey, then crashed into the back of Vehicle #2.

No injuries were reported at the scene. The primary cause of the crash was determined to be Operator #1 (Enescu) following too close to the vehicles in front of him and driving while distracted.  A secondary cause of the crash was Operator #3 (Harvey) also following to close to the vehicles in front of her.

Due to the final positioning of all three vehicles, the NB Exit lane and Exit #15 off-ramp were closed until units moved the vehicles.  Upon doing so, two NB travel lanes were restored for use but due to the time of day, significant traffic delays were encountered in the area.  Vehicle #1 and 2 were later removed without incident.
