SUMMARY OF CRASH:

On 08/29/2016, at approximately 1802 hours, the Williston PSAP received a report of a two-car motor vehicle crash on Interstate 189 eastbound in the City of South Burlington. Upon arriving on scene, Troopers determined that Vehicle 2 (Fortune) had slowed due to heavy traffic and was struck from behind by Vehicle #1 (Abare) as he reacted to Vehicle 2's sudden decrease in speed.

While investigating the crash, Troopers noted an odor of intoxicants coming from Abare.  He was asked to perform Standard Field Sobriety Exercise (SFSEs) and registered a Preliminary Breath Test (PBT) sample of 0.160% BAC. Abare was taken into custody

for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and transported to the Williston State Police Barracks for processing.

Abare was later released on citation to appear in Chittenden County Criminal Court on 09/15/2016 for the charge of driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI-#2).
