SUMMARY OF CRASH:
On 08/06/2016 at approximately 1615 hours, VSP Westminster was notified of a two vehicle crash with injuries on Interstate 91 southbound in the area of the exit 3 interchange in the Town of Brattleboro. This crash was reported to have occurred in the construction zone.
Upon the arrival of Troopers it was determined that as Cohen traveled southbound in the construction zone at approximately 50 miles per hour, she looked at her GPS briefly to try to determine the progress of her trip. As a result of Cohen momentarily taking her eyes off the roadway, she was unable to recognize that the vehicle in front of her operated by Kingsbury had stopped. Cohen reported that when she looked back at the roadway, she determined that the vehicle in front of her had stopped. Cohen advised that she took evasive action to try to avoid colliding with the vehicle stopped in front of her. Cohen reported that although she tried to avoid the vehicle, she was unable to do so. The investigation revealed that the driver’s side front end of Cohen’s vehicle struck the passenger side rear of Kingsbury’s vehicle. After Cohen hit Kingsbury’s vehicle, she traveled across the southbound lane and struck the bridge on the west shoulder of the roadway. Both vehicles were towed from the scene due to damage sustained. Rescue Inc. responded to the scene and transported Cohen to BMH. Traffic in the area was slowed and backed up as a result of the crash for approximately one hour.
